David Dhawan – Famous Punjabi

Born on 16 August , 1960 in Jalandhar , Punjab , Rajinder Dhawan aka David Dhawan is primarily a Hindi film director . At a young age Dhawan had decided to join films . David Dhawan went on to study at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and graduated from there . Before becoming a film director Dhawan entered the field of editing . As an editor his first film was ‘Oh Bewafa’ (1980). He went on to be a part of several big films like ‘Souten’ (1983), ‘Saaransh’ (1984) and ‘Naam’ (1986) . David Dhawan made his directorial debut with the Bollywood action film , ‘Taaqatwar’ (1989) starring Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Neelam Kothari and Anita Raj. It was a boxoffice success. Also in 1989 David Dhawan directed , ‘Aag Ka Gola’ starring Sunny Deol, Dimple Kapadia, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra.He followed this up with Swarg (1990) and then Andhiyan (1990) . David Dhawan hit gold with the release of ‘Swarg’ . It became his first super-hit film which was a family drama starring Rajesh Khanna, Govinda and Juhi Chawla . After his first big super-hit David Dhawan went on to direct many blockbusters such as ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ (1992) and ‘Aankhen’ (1993). ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ starred Govinda, Divya Bharti while ‘Aankhen’ starred Govinda, Chunky Pandey . David Dhawan reached new heights of success. Inspired from ‘Do Phool’ (1973), ‘Aankhen’ was the biggest hit of 1993, and David Dhawan hasn’t looked back ever since. He established himself as a successful comedy film maker with many rib-tickling comedy films . His partnership with Govinda was admired by the industry and the pair went on to work in many successful films together . Some of the films that both of them worked with each other were ‘Raja Babu’ (1994) , ‘Coolie No. 1’ (1995) , ‘Banarasi Babu’ (1997) , ‘Saajan Chale Sasural'(1997) , ‘Hero No. 1’ (1997) , ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’ (1999) , ‘Kunwara’ (2000) , ‘Jodi No.1’ (2001) and ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’ (2003) . Out of these films , ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’ , ‘Jodi No.1’ , ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’ , ‘Coolie No. 1’ , ‘Raja Babu’ were superhit films . David Dhawan also released blockbuster films such as ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ (1998) , ‘Gharwali Bharwali’ (1999) , ‘Biwi No.1’ (1999) , ‘Mujhse Karogi’ (2004) and ‘Partner’ (2007) . His recent successful film includes ‘Chashme Buddoor’ (2013) which starred Ali Zafar, Tapsee Pannu, Siddharth Narayan and Rishi Kapoor . David Dhawan is married to Karuna Dhawan and has two children, Rohit Dhawan and Varun Dhawan . Rohit debuted as a director with the film ‘Desi Boyz’ starring Akshay Kumar and John Abraham , while Varun was launched as an actor in Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’. David Dhawan’s future projects includes a film with his son , Varun Dhawan by the name of ‘Main Tera Hero’ . The film features Varun Dhawan, Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri .
