BEGINNINGS :
Dara Singh was born to Surat Singh and Balwant Kaur, in the village Dharmchak in the Majha area of Punjab, India. His real name was Deedar Singh Randhawa. He came to Singapore in 1947 where he worked in a factory and began his wrestling carrer. He trained under Harnam Singh in the Great World Stadium in Singapore in the Indian style wrestling known as Pehlwani.He trained for many years and switched to professional wrestling. He fought his first wrestling match with an Italian wrestler and the match was a draw. In 1950 he defeated Tarlok Singh and became the Champion of Malaysia in Indian Style wrestling. In 1951,he became famous when he defeated the Australian Indian professional wrestler King Kong in Sri Lanka .He lifted him ,all of 200kg over his head. In 1968 in Bombay,he earned the title of World Championship by defeating Lou Thez. Dara Singh debut as an actor in 1952 with Sangdil. He was a stunt film actor. In 1962, he acted as a lead role in the film King Kong.In the late 1980s he did television. He is known for his role of Hanuman in the epic Ramayan. He stared as Bhima in various Mahabharat movies. He was also a director,producer and actor. He directed movies like Nanak Dukhiya Sab Sansar,Rustom,Sawa Lakh Se Ek Ladaun etc.He acted in many movies. He debuted in Bollywood as an actor in the movie Pheli Jhalak in 1954,in the Tamil movie as an actor in Engal Selvi. He was the actor,director,writer in the movie Nanak Dukhi Sab Sansar.He also joined the BJP India and was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009

He is best kown for his epic role in Ramayan and in Mahabharat as Bhima . He is also known as a wrestler . His last Hindi movie was Jab We Met and his last Punjabi movie was Dil Apna Punjabi. Dara Singh also was the owner of Dara Film Studio at Phase 6 Mohali City Punjab founded in 1978. He won many awards.He did 500 professional fights. He won Commonwealth Wrestling Championship,Rustom-e-Punjab,World Wrestling Championship,Rustom-e-Hind.
FAMILY :
Dara Singh was married to Bachno Kaurat the age of 9.Their first child Parduman was born in 1945 .Soon they got a divorce. He then got married to Surjit Kaur in 1962. He has 2 sons from this marriage,Vinrendr Singh Randhawa and Amrik Singh Randhawa.He has three daughters,Deepa Singh,Kamal Singh,Loveleen Singh. Dara Singh had a brither Sardara Singh who was also a wrestler and actor.
DEATH :
Dara Singh died on 12 July 2012. He had suffered a major heart attack on 7th July .
