Profile : Indira Mahajan A 1988 Oberlin graduate, Indira Mahajan flirted with becoming a voice major in college before deciding on African-American studies. After graduation, she returned to her voice training at the New School’s Mannes College of Music in New York and the Academia Musicale Ottorino Respighi in Italy. She now sings with the New York City Opera and appears with several national and international companies. Daughter of a Punjabi father and an African-American mother, Mahajan has performed as Musetta in Puccini’s La Boheme, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
