BEGINNINGS :
Banga was born in Khadki cantonment of Pune,Maharashtra. His family was originally from Jallandhar ,Punjab .India. He did his education from St.Edward’s School,Shimla, and Hyderabad Public School in Hyderabad. He graduated from St.Stephen’s College with a degree in economics. He subsequently earned his PGP in management from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad which is the equivalent of MBA. He began his business career as a management trainee in Nestle in 1981. He did jobs spanning in sales,marketing and general management for the next 13 years. He was involved in the launch of Pepsico’s fast food franchise like Pizza Hut and KFC in India as the economy liberalized.
He worked as a debt collector as part of his training in 1996 with the Citigroup.He then headed up CitiFinancial and the US Consumer Assets Division from 2000 to 2002. He was chief executive of Citi International Global Consumer Group from 2005 to 2008 which included all the credit card and consumer banking operations outside of North America. In 2008,he became the chief executive of the Asia Pacific business and led a major reorganization of Citigroup’s Asian operations that gave an increased authority across the bank’s product line.He was the chief operating officer for Mastercard from 2010 to 2021.IN May 24.2022 ,he was nominated non executive chairman of Exor.He stepped down in 2023.

In Feburary 2015, Banga was appointed to serve as a member of the President Barak Obama ‘s President Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.He has been an outside advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris .
Banga was nominated to lead the World Bank on23rd February 2023. On May 3,2023,Banga was elected as the fourteenth president of the World Bank.
Banga has many awards and achievments to his name. He has won the Foreign Policy Association Medal(2012), the India’s fourth Highest civilian award ,the Padma Shri,from the Indian Government (2016).In 2021, he was honored with the Distinguished Friends of Singapore Public Service Star from the Singapore government and many others.
FAMILY LIFE :
Ajaypal Singh Banga’s father,Harbhajan Singh Banga was a lieutenant general of the Indian Army.He has ayounger brother M.S.Banga. He has a sister ,Deepa. He married Ritu and have two daughters , Aditi Banga and Jojo Banga.
