THE BEGINNINGS:

Chamkila was born in the village Dugri near Ludhiana, Punjab as Dhani Ram. He went to Gujar Khan Primary School,Dugri,Ludhiana,Punjab and studied till the 8th standard.In 1979, Chamkila then 18 years of age sang infront of Surinder Shinda. Shinda was impressed and took him under his wing.

BEST  KNOWN FOR:

Chamkila is known for his singing. He also wrote songs for Shinda.During the 80`s he became very popular .his song lyrics were very controversial and vulgar. Amar Singh Chamkila first partnered up with the female vocalist Surinder Sonia.She was instrumental in pushing Chamkila to record his debut album in 1980, They had eight duets in the album Takue Te Takua .This was produced by Charanjit Ahuja.The album became a hit across Punjab.He had established live stage partnership with Miss Usha Kiran,Amar Noorie and others.It is found that at the height of his career Chamkila had performed 366 shows in 365 days.

FAMILY LIFE :

Chamkila married twice. His ex wife is Gurmail Kaur. He married Amarjot Kaur on 23rd May 1983.He has two sons ,one with Gurmail Kaur and the other,Jaiman Chamkila with Amarjot Kaur.He has two daughters ,both with Gurmail Kaur,Amandeep Kaur and Kamandeep Kaur who is a singer. His parents were Hari Ram Singh and Kartar Kaur. He has two elder brothers and three elder sisters.

DEATH: 

On 8th March1988 at 1.40pm he was shot by bikers gang with AK 47 along with his pregnant wife Amarjot Kaur and four members of their band in village Mehsampur in Jullundhar just before their performance.He had 200 songs that had not been sung or recorded officially at the time of his death.In 1988, the song Yaad Aave Waar Waar was released after his death.
